Welcome to the ISP Home Page Welcome to the Independent Study Program: Geriatric Content Home Page from the Office of Geriatrics and Gerontology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. A primary goal of the Office of Geriatrics and Gerontology is to assure that you, as medical students, participate in comprehensive, high quality educational experiences designed to develop attitudes, knowledge and skills needed to support the health care needs of older adults. This is done by providing you with pre-clinical and clinical learning opportunities in aging that are integrated throughout your four years of medical education. The Independent Study Program: Geriatric Content in Modules is one of our pre-clinical programs. We are pleased to offer this to you as first year ISP students.
We have worked closely with the module leaders to develop a geriatric component for your modules. As you explore this site, you will find geriatric objectives for each module, required readings and self-tests. The self-tests will be similar to questions on the examinations for the modules. Some of the modules will have short summaries available as well. This will help you focus on what is important from the required readings. The required reading text, Principles of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology, 4th edition, (1999), Hazzard, Blass, Ettinger, Halter, and Ouslander, is available in your ISP Library and the Health Science library. Also, chapter readings are available through electronic reserve by clicking on the highlighted chapter under each module. If you have questions about the module content, please contact the appropriate module leader. We have provided contact information for each of the module leaders, with their e-mail addresses, for your convenience. If you have other questions or comments about the geriatric component of this experience, please contact me at laber.2@osu.edu. We look forward to working with you throughout this web-based program. |
